Evergreen in mild winters, but turns tan or brown with hard freezes.  Narrow-leafed grasses grow 5 feet tall and three feet wide.  Becomes a spectacular haze of dusky pink in the fall, when it blooms.  Adapted to a wide range of soil types in well-drained locations.  Irrigation in late summer encourges heavier flowering.

Perennial.  Grows to 5 feet high and wide.  Forms a dense clump of medium green foliage; long plumes of coppery pink or purplish flowers are held within the clump or just above it.  Dies back in winter. Full sun.  Has purplish red leaves and rose-colored plumes that fade to beige.
