Aquilegia formosa 'Western Columbine'

A hummingbird and butterfly favorite, and a real beauty!  Formosa is Latin for beautiful, and it correctly describes this gorgeous plant when it suddenly bursts into bloom with hundreds of lovely nodding flowers suspended above the airy, delicate blue-green foliage.  Wide-spreading orange sepals and yellow petals with red lobes and upright, reddish orange spurs.  $8.95

A spectacular, showy perennial vine with amazing giant flowers, up to 3-inches long in carmine-red that always attracts attention.  Creamy-white anthers are revealed when the outward facing flowers open. The multi-branching stems are covered with attractive, soft, downy, heart-shaped leaves reaching 5 to 8 feet tall.  Prefers bright shade, rich soil, and average water.  Protection from serious frost or lift the tubers in the fall.  $4.95

Clerodendron ugandense (Blue Glory Bower)

Showy evergreen shrub growing to 10' tall and wide.  It has egg-shaped, toothed 3"-4" long leaves.  The bright blue-violet 1" long "butterflies" flutter on 4"-10" panicles at the ends of the long, arching branches.  Each individual flower has three pale blue lobes and one violet lobe and long purple anthers which bend elegantly upward.  It blooms through summer and fall.  It prefers partial shade.  Hardiness Zones are 10-11, but it is root hardy zones 8-9.  It will freeze to the ground where unprotected and return from the roots in the spring.

Well loved by hummingbirds.  This is a superb salvia from the Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas regions of Mexico.  The broad tapered leaves have a bluish hue on top and purple beneath.  Contrasts very nicely with the vivid green new growth.  It also has lovely violet-blue flowers with white markings.  Blooms late August-October.  Grows to 4 feet tall and 2 feet wide.  Hardy to zone 8.   $5.95
